Gods Unchained

Vicious Rend

Part of a series of written narrative sketches based on cards from the game Gods Unchained. These are just for fun and are not officially tied to Immutable or Gods Unchained in any way.

Cuts and bruises are just part of battle. There’s no getting around them if you’re on the front line. But if you don’t take care of yourself, the enemy can take advantage of any little injury you have. This philosophy is exactly something Auros, the God of War takes advantage of.

Knowing that enemy creatures would be sustaining injuries from his champion and followers, Auros sought a way to take advantage of them. He wanted a way to make those injuries even worse without having to sacrifice his own army of creatures. Once again, he approached Althaia for a spell.

She scribed a spell she dubbed “Vicious Rend” onto a dried piece of Silverback skin using the fang of a Riled Ursine. As she carved the letters into the thick hide, the fang practically sliced it in half, which was exactly what she was looking for. When this spell is used in battle on an injured creature, their existing wounds are torn open, making bad injuries even worse. Sometimes it’s enough to dispatch the creature to the void altogether, giving the spellcaster a distinct advantage to exploit.
